Message from 2010 Campaign Co-Chairs
Jim & Susan Mollison
Dear Neighbors,
Most all of us agree that we live in a pretty great little corner of the world.
But, like any other place, it has problems. Those who are not as fortunate need help from those of us who are doing better. The hurting is very real and the list of needs is often very long.
Fortunately Hughes and Stanley Counties include a host of caring and generous citizens always willing to lend a helping hand. And we have charitable agencies that are extremely well-run -- capable of lending a helping hand when and where it is needed most. We are fortunate to have them.
We we were asked to be the honorary chairs of this year's campaign, we didn't think so much of the "honor" of being asked; we thought it was a duty to be performed willingly and with enthusiasm because of the history of successful United Way campaigns -- and all the dedicated volunteers and workers we rely on. Also, it is a way to "pay back" for the good life this area has given us.
Take a look through the alphabet of helping hand agencies -- from the American Red Cross to the YMCA -- and know that they deserve our best effort.
As we kick off this year's Capital Area United Way campaign, think of the rather down-to-earth comedian, Larry the Cable Guy. He's not very sophisticated, but we like his tag line: "Git 'er done!"
Let's all go out and "git 'er done!"

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED -- Business BLITZ planned for mid-October
Volunteers are needed to visit area businesses on behalf of United Way on a work day in October. The date has not yet been set. Members of the "Blue Brigade" will call on businesses in teams of two. An organizational meeting will be held the morning of the event. If you would like to volunteer, please call the United Way Office in Pierre at 224-9229.
Positive Impact
“You can see the positive impact from United Way just about everywhere you look.
Whether it’s helping children read, making sure kids get the health care they need, aiding disabled people with more independent lives or finding volunteer work for seniors, United Way dollars that are raised here stay here and benefit just about everyone in our area in one way or another.”
